It is impossible for anyone to be one great player in his rookie year in one league. It is the same case with Walter Payton, the last Chicago Bears running back, who is still considered to be the best running back in the history of the NFL. In the year of 1975, he was signed by the Chicago Bears being offered the highest salary of his time. Before the 1978 season began, Payton signed contracts for the next three seasons reflecting his superstar status, continuing his highest salary at his days.
From his salary, it was easy for us to know that the Bears were expecting big things from him and better days of the team. He did never let the team and fans down. Together with Roland Harper’s 992 yards, the two running backs got almost 72 percent of the Bears’ offense. In the following years, he continued his greatness on the field in Walter Payton jerseys. To be honest, it would be impossible for the Bears win Super Bowl in the year of 1985 if Payton was not in the team. In his life, football had been one of the most important things for him as he had so great passion for football.
